Abu Dhabi, UAE, February 2, 2016 –A new season of The Smovies, an exciting platform that reinvents the short film competition, has been launched by BrandMoxie, a leading marketing company in Abu Dhabi, alongside its strategic partner, VOX Cinemas with support from the US Embassy Abu Dhabi.

The Smovies is held three times a year, with the strategic partnership of VOX Cinemas who screen the winning films across their theatres, and New York Film Academy who provide a filmmaking scholarship for the winner.
“We are gearing for an exciting competition of The Smovies this season, which focuses on the inspirational theme ‘I Have a Dream’, and are pleased to announce the support of the US Embassy who are adding great value in ideation and implementation.” said Sana Bagersh, CEO of BrandMoxie and Founder of The Smovies.
“We are building on the excellent results from last season #WhyILoveUAE which was with Image Nation Abu Dhabi and focused on capturing inspirational stories about life in the UAE. The Smovies continues to reinforce its position as the leading short film competition platform in the UAE, and we’re expecting to receive more entries this season,” Bagersh added.

The Smovies encourages budding filmmakers, students, amateurs and professionals to develop one minute long short films that can be shot on a camera or smart phone. The theme, on dreams and visions for a brighter future, can be about family, career, country or the world in general. It can be shot in English or Arabic.
Film submissions for the new season runs through to April 15, with the winners declared at the end of the month. The shortlisted entries will be judged by The Smovies’ jury of film experts: Emirati actor Mansoor Al Feeli (Zinzana), directors Nawaf Al Janahi (Sea Shadow), Khaled Al Mahmoud (Sabeel) and Nujoom Al Ghanem (Red, Blue, Yellow), as well as filmmaking instructors and veterans David Moore, Greg Unrau, Mohannad Al Bakri, Dahlia Mahmoud and Michelle Nickelson. The Smovies is a short film creation platform that has been launched by BrandMoxie, a leading media group in the UAE involved in marketing, publishing and events.
